Environmental commitment
At Norse Commercial Services, we are always looking for cleaner and greener ways of working – improving our environmental credentials and helping to safeguard the planet in the process.
We are committed to working with our partners, suppliers, service providers and stakeholders in promoting and achieving sustainable development of the environment.
Our environmental policies operate to ISO 14001 and environmental factors are included in decision-making. We have careful control over the specification of products and materials, the selection of sub-contractors and the management and handling of waste.
The Norse Environmental Management System incorporates an ‘aspects register’ that includes the controls for mitigation, reduction and management of environmental issues and their resulting impacts from all areas of the business within the ISO14001 scope.
A key requirement of the ISO 14001 standard is to “continually improve”, implemented at Norse through a “Plan, Do, Check and Act” cycle. Four of our most important objectives under this requirement are:
- To reduce mileage emissions by 5% a year (per £1m of turnover) for each year until 2015;
- To quantify consumption of water use at key sites during 2011, in order to be able to set consumption reduction targets for the period June 2012 to the end of December 2012;
- To communicate progress on environmental performance internally and externally – promoting good environmental practice among staff;
- To reduce emissions of CO2 from buildings by 5% per unit of floor area in the calendar year 2012 compared with 2011.
