Patients praise Norse roles in community hospitals facilities management
July 2011

In an independent survey, patients highly rated the standard of care they have received when staying at Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust community hospitals, where Norse provides the facilities management.

The results showed 97% of those who responded rated the care they received as excellent, very good or good, and almost all (97%) would recommend the hospital to others.

A total of 122 inpatients provided responses - just under half of all patients who had an inpatient stay with the Trust during the survey’s duration - and they were asked a range of questions on their experiences from admission to discharge.

Responses covering areas where Norse played a pivotal role were:
·         98% of patients said they always had access to water or drinks during the day and evening
·         Assistance with eating or drinking was made available to 97% of those respondents who needed it
·         98% said cleanliness levels were high in their ward or their room. One patient wrote “It is an excellent hospital spotless and clean.”

Loyola Weeks, NCH&C’s Director of Quality and Risk and Executive Nurse, explained that the survey was not just about the ‘treatment’ people received while being an inpatient of NCH&C, but the whole patient experience; the quality of care and the confidence they felt in the Trust’s services.

Dean Wetteland, FM Director at Norse commented, “We are delighted our work at Norfolk Community Health & Care Trust is rated so highly by the ultimate beneficiaries of the services.  Norse staff take great pride in the tasks they carry out at the community hospitals and it is rewarding for them to receive such overwhelming praise from the patients.”
