Norse helps District Council win top cleaning award
April 2009

The work of Norse Commercial Services was acknowledged by North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) when it scooped the coveted UK Winner’s Trophy in the 2009 Clean Britain Awards.
Richard Garfield, senior environmental services manager at NNDC, which outsources its street cleaning and open-space maintenace to Norse, said “The work that Norse undertakes on our behalf, as part of the waste and cleansing contracts, is vital to the cleanliness of our District and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all their team for the hard work that they put in.”
A total of 63 entrants competed for a number of awards, but it was the NNDC/Norse entry that came away with the of the top accolade on the night, as well as the top District Council award and 5 Star Grading.
Norse has 27 staff working on the NNDC contract, which began in 2004 and runs through to 2011.
Tony Newton, Norse commercial services manager for the NNDC contract, said “This is a fantastic win, both for the Council and for Norse as their contractor. Unlike urban councils, the NNDC area is rural, sizeable and wide-spread, so maintaining the high standard across the whole area requires dedication and commitment. The award is a clear recognition of these qualities amongst Norse staff.”
All entries received an anonymous half day inspection visit during the second half of 2008 and were judged against a number of criteria, including; litter and fly tipping; waste bin management; chewing gum and cigarette butt litter, dog fouling and signage and street furniture cleanliness.
The Clean Britain judges said driving around the area was ‘a real pleasure’ and that ‘visitors could not fail to be impressed by the cleanliness’.
