Ex-Project Search student addresses Norse AGM
December 2011

An ex Project Search student with aspergers talked to the 140 managers and stakeholders attending the 2011 Norse Group Annual General Meeting about the barriers that leaning difficulties present to getting a job.
24-year-old Carl Nicholls stepped up onto the stage and talked about what he had previously studied at college and how he desperately wanted to get a job.
He talked openly about his learning disabilities, the barriers these presented to finding employment, and how his time on Project Search helped prepare him.
Carl was one of the first students taken on by Norse Commercial Services under the Office for Disability Issues ‘Project Search’ initiative. In July 2010 Norse offered Carl full time employment in an administrative role within the Transport Division.
He told how his time on Project Search helped him to develop confidence to talk to people, and ultimately was the key to getting a job.
Tricia Fuller, Human Resources Director at Norse commented, “Carl’s presentation was inspiring, particularly coming from someone with his learning difficulties. Everyone in the room was moved, not just by what he had to say, but also that he had the confidence to stand up in front of so many people and tell his story in such a positive and self-assured way. Carl is an excellent example of why organisations should support Project Search.” |
