Norse wins contract with East coast port
February 2012

Norse Commercial Services has added further business with the award of the contract for cleaning at Felixstowe port.
Hutchison Ports, which operates Port of Felixstowe, have awarded the contact starting on 1st April 2012.
The contract covers day-to-day and specialist cleaning at over 100 different locations around the port, including office cleaning, mess room cleaning, toilet cleaning, and periodic deep cleans, plus exterior grounds maintenance.
“We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious contract, with one of the country’s busiest ports,” Norse Commercial Services Managing Director Peter Hawes commented. “The company is continuing its sustainable growth and is building on the £20 million of business added last year. Keeping such contracts within the region is great news for the East Anglian economy.”
The services will be delivered by Norse’s Suffolk-based operation SCS, which will take on the 55 staff employed by the previous contractor, ensuring continuity of employment in the region.
The new contract augments the existing waste management and street cleansing agreement that Norse has had with Port of Felixstowe since 2007. “Synergies between the two contracts will enable real efficiency gains,” Peter Hawes pointed out, “particularly in terms of recycling.”
Mike Britch, Managing Director of Norse Group, the parent company of Norse Commercial Services, added that such agreements are also ensuring that additional high quality jobs are created in the area.
“Contracts such as these mean additional staff are also required in head office and satellite operation support roles, adding to the employment opportunities across the whole region,” he said.
“Our flexible and innovative approach, in both the public and private sectors, are enabling organisations to improve the quality of service delivery and in many cases realise significant savings,” Peter Hawes concluded.
Norse Group currently turns over in excess of £250 million a year and employs over 10,000 people, at 30 locations across the UK. |
