Norse Waste Solutions (NWS) has consolidated its position as supplier of waste solutions to the University of East Anglia, with recent contract renewal of the general and segregated recycling management and a new contract to handle glass collections, plus an agreement that covers segregate food waste collection later in year.

The contract, for an initial 3 years with two one-year options to extend, sees the number of wheeled bins located around the UEA site increased in order to encourage more recycling.

117 x 1100litre wheeled bins collect general waste and are emptied three times a week; 107 x 1100 litre wheeled bins are being used for recycling waste and emptied twice a week; and 36 x 240 litre wheeled bins for glass that are emptied on a weekly basis. There are also a number of small domestic sized bins for family residences.

The UEA currently recycles 36% of waste collected, achieved from the initiatives first introduced by Norse in 2004, and is looking to improve on this figure with the introduction of glass and food recycling.

“It’s a testament to the service levels which Norse provides that we have built up a relationship with UEA that has lasted eight years and has now been renewed,” commented Caitlin Minett, Waste and Recycling Commercial Manager at Norse.

Norse has introduced a new Euro 5 low emission vehicle for the contract, with on board weighing equipment that will provide the UEA with accurate recycling data
